Therapy for Anxiety, Perfectionism & Life Transitions
For college students, high-achieving women, and parents in Herndon, VA and throughout Virginia
In-person therapy in Herndon, Virginia and online therapy throughout Virginia.
You’re capable, responsible, and used to getting things done.
From the outside, you may even look like you have everything together.
But inside, it can feel very different.
Maybe your mind is constantly running. You overthink decisions, replay conversations, worry about disappointing people, or put enormous pressure on yourself to get things right. You may be successful at school, work, or taking care of everyone around you but still feel anxious, exhausted, or unsure of yourself. Maybe you are struggling to sleep at night because of the constant thinking and worrying.
Therapy can help quiet some of that noise.
I’m Diane Ramia, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I help college students, women, and parents manage anxiety, let go of perfectionism and people pleasing, navigate life transitions, and feel more confident in themselves and their decisions.
I use a client-centered approach, meaning that I will draw from a variety of treatment modalities to best meet your needs. In our therapy sessions, you and I will work together to determine what has got you feeling stuck and learn how to move forward.
Who I Work With
-
College and Young Adults
College and young adulthood are supposed to be exciting.
But they can also be incredibly overwhelming.
You may be trying to manage classes, grades, friendships, relationships, family expectations, finances, career decisions, and the pressure to figure out what you’re going to do with your life.
Meanwhile, it can seem like everyone around you is handling it better than you are.
You might find yourself:
Overthinking decisions
Putting enormous pressure on yourself academically
Comparing yourself to other people
Worrying about disappointing your family
Struggling with friendships or relationships
Feeling lonely even when you're surrounded by people
Questioning what you want to do with your life
Feeling anxious about graduation or your career
Struggling to balance independence with family expectations
Therapy can help you understand yourself better, manage anxiety, build confidence, and make decisions based on what matters to you rather than what you think you're supposed to do.
-
High Achieving Women
You’re the person people count on.
You get things done. You show up. You take care of your responsibilities and often everyone else's.
But being capable doesn't mean everything feels easy.
You may spend a lot of time worrying, planning, anticipating problems, or thinking about what everyone else needs. You might struggle to say no, feel guilty when you set boundaries, or constantly wonder whether you're doing enough.
Even your accomplishments may not feel satisfying for very long before your mind moves on to the next thing.
You may recognize yourself in:
Anxiety and constant overthinking
Perfectionism
People pleasing
Difficulty setting boundaries
Fear of disappointing others
Work or career stress
Relationship concerns
Self-doubt despite being successful
Feeling responsible for everyone
Difficulty slowing down
Major life transitions
Feeling like you've lost touch with what you want
Therapy can help you carry your life differently without anxiety, guilt, and other people's expectations having so much control over your decisions.

Parents
There isn't a handbook for getting parenting exactly right.
And the more you care, the easier it can be to question yourself.
Maybe you're worried about your teen or college-aged child. Maybe your relationship with your child is changing as they become more independent. Or perhaps you're trying to support everyone in your family while realizing that you're overwhelmed yourself.
You may find yourself wondering:
Am I doing too much?
Am I not doing enough?
Should I step in or back off?
Why can't we communicate anymore?
How do I help without making things worse?
My background working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families including many years as a school counselor, gives me a unique understanding of both sides of these relationships.
Therapy can give you a place to work through your concerns, understand patterns within your family, set healthier boundaries, and feel more confident in the way you parent.
Meet Diane
A therapist who understands the pressure to get things right
I'm Diane Ramia, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.
For more than 15 years, I've worked with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families as they navigate anxiety, relationships, transitions, and the complicated expectations we often place on ourselves.
Before becoming a therapist in private practice, I spent 13 years as a school counselor in Fairfax County Public Schools. That experience continues to shape the way I work with college students, young adults, and parents today.
My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and practical.
I don't believe therapy should feel like you're talking while someone simply sits across from you taking notes.
We'll talk about what's happening in your life, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical ways to approach situations differently.
Depending on your needs, I draw from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, and trauma-informed care. I am also EMDR trained.
Most importantly, therapy is a relationship.
You are welcome to show up exactly as you are.
